FEDERAL STUDENT
AID
Government funds are available to
certificate- and degree-seeking students,
even those whose entire program is offered
online. To apply for federal student
grants, work-study aid, and loans, you must
fill out a FAFSA (Free
Application for Federal Student Aid) form,
which you can do online. The FAFSA can also
be used for most state and some private
aid.
The application deadline for the FAFSA form
varies by school and the state it's in.
Some deadlines are as early as January, and
additional forms may be required. Check
with your school's financial aid office for
all the information, forms, and deadlines
you will need.
ONLINE
Fastweb is
a free scholarship database search site
that can target your search for continuing
education funds. In operation since 1995,
FastWeb is web's oldest and most popular
scholarship search service.
FinAid.org is
another great online resource, offering
students information on not only loans and
scholarships, but on other types of aid
(such as grants, grad schools funds, and
tax benefits), links to application forms,
calculators, and an FAQ section. Another
nice feature is the site's "Beyond
Financial Aid" section, offering info on
college admissions and testing, college
selection, and internships and careers.
OTHER RESOURCES
Private loans and other sources of
financial aid may also be available. Be
sure to check with the school's financial
aid office to find out exactly what all of
your options are.
